New Horizons RV Corp was founded in 1989 as a family-owned and operated company, and it continues to this day as one of the very few such RV companies. The original owners were Harold Johnson and his three sons. Johnson’s engineering excellence brought many new ideas to the manufacturing process that are still an integral part of the New Horizons product today.
The Johnson family sold the company in 2002 to Phil and Karen Brokenicky and their family. The Brokenickys have continued the tradition of bringing “hands-on” ownership to the market place with their two sons, Drew and Cole. They also employ two of Mr. Johnson’s sons. The company sells its fifth wheels and travel trailers direct to the consumer, thus ensuring that a family member provides the customer with attention to detail.
While maintaining the engineering excellence that Mr. Johnson brought to the RV business, Brokenicky has injected luxury and style rarely seen in towable RVs. Many proven floor plans are available, but individual customization is done on many of the units as well. CAD processes are used to design the units. The objective of the interior décor is to bring understated elegance and hominess to each unit manufactured. Each unit also has convenience built in so that the RV is easy to use. As Brokenicky notes, “These units are called recreational vehicles (RVs), not work vehicles. Too many RVs are work and not fun. Ours will be easy to use and reliable as long as I am involved in the business.”
One of the underlying principles of the company is to build the absolute best RV in the business. This has been achieved and maintained and is recognized by the numerous honors earned by the New Horizons product. RV Consumer Group has awarded their only Five Star Rating to New Horizons for over a decade. In addition, Consumer Digest has named New Horizons as their Best Buy. The product has been featured on the cover of Trailer Life three times in seven years – the only RV to receive that many cover spreads.
While awards are nice, it is the customer that means the most to the Brokenicky family. Over the years, customer satisfaction for New Horizons owners is unmatched in the industry. Brokenicky has stated many times, “We don’t claim to be perfect – that distinction only occurred once by a Man over two thousand years ago, but we WILL make our customer happy.” This comes from the industry’s best warranty program and a team of craftsmen who know how important it is to please the customer.
The company operates its business in Junction City, Kansas, in a state-of-the-art facility built in 2008. The company builds its own chassis, hardwood cabinetry, fiberglass walls and roofs, and wiring harnesses. This is done to maintain the quality that is the New Horizons standard. A four-bay service facility is located next to the manufacturing factory. Adjacent to I-70, the 15-acre site provides easy access and limited hook-ups for New Horizons customers. Additionally, Milford Lake has world-class camping just five miles away. Factory tours are given to the individual customer by appointment and are utilized extensively in the sales process.
