FAQs

Common questions about New Horizons RVs and Trailers

DOES NEW HORIZONS HAVE ANY DEALERS?

New Horizons RV sells factory-direct only. This allows us to build our units to each customer’s individual specifications and to interface directly with the customer, working one-on-one with each customer in order to build their perfect dream RV.

WHERE CAN WE SEE A NEW HORIZONS RV?

We rely on the quality of our product and word of mouth advertising, so unless you happen to catch one of our customers during their travels you probably will want to visit our manufacturing facility located in Junction City, KS, which is just over two hours west of Kansas City on Interstate 70. We generally have eight to ten models in various stages of production, which will give you the opportunity to see production from the ground up, along with the quality craftsmanship that goes into each unit. Factory direct pricing is available. We do have a “Buy and Fly” program (call for details).

We are also proud to sponsor an Ambassadors program in which several couples have agreed to serve as Ambassadors for our company. They open their coaches to any interested potential customers and each is quite knowledgeable about our company and their particular unit. Their names, locations, and contact information is available here on our website under the “ambassadors” link.

WHAT ARE THE PLANT TOUR HOURS?

New Horizons RV is open for plant tours Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Saturday tours are available on special request. We do ask that you call ahead to schedule a plant tour so we can guarantee the availability of staff for your personal tour.

DOES NEW HORIZONS ATTEND ANY RV SHOWS?

Attending RV shows is a great way to show off our trailers! We frequent several rallies and/or shows each year; in 2009-2010 we traveled to Tampa, FL; Hershey, PA; and Louisville, KY. We also hosted several Open Houses in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. An updated show schedule can be found on this website.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST AIRPORT TO NEW HORIZONS?

We recommend that you fly in to the Kansas City International Airport and take a rental car to our facility. It is approximately a two-hour drive west on Interstate 70. While slightly more expensive, Manhattan, KS, has direct flights through Dallas.

HOW IS WARRANTY WORK HANDLED?

New Horizons backs up the skill and quality that we build into each RV with a two-year “hitch-to-bumper” warranty plus a five-year warranty on our frame. The quality of the materials we use and our skilled workers help to reduce the need for warranty repairs. When there is a problem, we like to see it corrected as quickly as possible and with as little inconvenience to the owner as possible. We prefer to do the repair at our facility, but when this is unfeasible, arrangements will be made to have the repair done at a facility in your area. Owners can choose to have work done where they think best. We just ask that the service center call us, and we will do the following: authorize direct billing so the owner does not have to pay; help the service facility analyze the problem; and tell them how best to fix it. Ours is the best warranty in the business!

HOW ARE THE WALLS, ROOF, AND FLOORS CONSTRUCTED?

The walls, floor, and roof are made with a pressure-rolled laminate construction. The layers of the wall (consisting of the exterior fiberglass, structural framework, foam insulation, and interior wall panel) are assembled, glued, and pressure rolled to form the walls. The structural framework of the walls, floor, and roof is built using tubular aluminum.

WHAT IS THE R-FACTOR OF THE WALLS, ROOF, AND FLOORS?

The insulation material that is used in the construction of a New Horizons RV is 1 ½” closed cell rigid foam that is often used in the construction of walk-in freezers and coolers. This material has an R-rating of eight, and when combined with the materials to build the walls, we have conservatively estimated the R-factor is around 9 to 11, with the roof and floors even higher.

We double the insulation in the roof which allows a full layer of foam above the ductwork. The floors also have foam laminated into the core. We even have full foam insulation in the slide room floors – an industry exclusive.

Our coaches are built for comfort in -0 degree to 100+ degree weather. This technique provides great insulation year round.

HOW DO THE SLIDE-OUTS WORK?

It’s as easy as pushing a button. We use individually switched hydraulic slides. We custom crimp all hydraulic fittings to ensure quality. Slides up to 20+ feet are possible.

WHAT IS THE CEILING HEIGHT AND WHAT IS THE SHOWER STALL DIMENSION?

In the Majestic and MotoMover, the living area ceiling height is 7’6” at the lowest, up to 9’0”. The bedroom/bath area is 6’8”, and the slides are 6’8. The shower stall is 39” x 39”. 6’10” bedroom/bathroom height is now an option on these units.

The Summit living area ceiling height is 7’6” at the lowest, up to 8’+. The bedroom/bath area is 6’4”, and the slides are 6’0”.

WHAT TYPE OF LEVELING SYSTEM DOES NEW HORIZONS USE?

We use Quadra’s “Big Foot.” Just touch one button to activate the front levelers so you can disconnect from the truck, then touch another button, and your work is complete. The coach levels itself side-to-side and front-to-back. We only need four levelers due to the structure of our chassis. The entire coach can be lifted so the tires are not touching the ground. This is now standard equipment on all our coaches.

DO YOU RECOMMEND A PARTICULAR TYPE OF TOWING VEHICLE FOR NEW HORIZONS RVs?

We will share some suggestions and offer examples of what New Horizons owners have found to be the most practical, but the choice of a towing vehicle is up to the customer. Individual preferences will dictate decisions in terms of brand, size, suspension, engine, etc. We have learned a great deal about towing as our owners have towed our units over 120,000 miles.

DO WE HAVE TO COME TO NEW HORIZONS TO ORDER?

We always enjoy working with our customers on a one-to-one basis during the order process, but with all the avenues of communication available today, it is not absolutely necessary. However, we think you will benefit from seeing the quality construction, the design and size options, and the choices of cabinetry and fabrics. We pride ourselves in not only the best fit and finish in the industry, but also the best chassis, electrical system, insulation, etc. Our promise to you—You will not be disappointed!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD A NEW HORIZONS RV?

The delivery time depends on the number of orders we have, but we suggest that you place your order a minimum of three months before you plan to take delivery.

WHAT DOES CUSTOMIZING MEAN?

New Horizons has developed some of the best floor plans in the industry. We have many excellent options from which you may choose. We can also mix and match different parts of floor plans or design a floor plan from scratch to suit your needs and wants. All the floor plans include our standard features, as well as the electrical, plumbing, and interior furnishings that you would expect from a luxury RV.

Our units can also be customized for special purposes (e.g., handicapped accessibility, horse hauling, bunk houses, office space, etc.).

CAN WE GET SOMETHING THAT IS NOT ON THE OPTIONS LIST?

Even though it may not be listed as an option, we can probably install it. Examples might include motorcycle lifts, wheelchair lifts, special appliances, etc.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL COST OF A NEW HORIZONS FIFTH-WHEEL?

We are a luxury builder, so our prices reflect that. Because there are so many options in terms of models, size, number of slides, etc., it is impossible to list all of the pricing on the website. However, we do have a price list available – just call our toll-free number to request it (800-235-3140).

DOES NEW HORIZONS OFFER FINANCING?

We have several excellent sources for financing. Terms are available for up to 20 years with fixed rates.

DOES NEW HORIZONS TAKE TRADE-INS?

We take trade-ins on a limited basis. Our preference is to help you sell your unit so that you’ll get more out of it. Call us for more information.

WHAT IS THE APPROXIMATE WEIGHT OF PERSONAL CARGO?

Following is a list of what might be logical for a full-timer to carry. It is probably on the heavy side. Most RVers do not carry a full tank of fresh water (or any water) in their holding tanks.

HOW MUCH CARGO CAN I ACTUALLY PUT IN OUR NEW HORIZONS RV?

Every unit we build will have at least 3000 pounds of cargo capacity; most approach 4,000 pounds.

HOW MUCH DO YOUR UNITS WEIGH?

Since we build a lot of quality and infrastructure into our coaches, they are on the heavy side. We weigh every unit, so weights are actual, as opposed to estimated. Because we customize to the level we do, we don’t publish weights, but we can give you a good idea of what it will weigh.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT WHEN WE COME TO PICK UP OUR NEW HORIZONS RV?

Upon arriving, we will instruct you on the use and operation of your RV. There are hook-ups next to our facility so that you may spend one or two days here getting familiar with the operation of the systems. If you are having us install the hitch and brake control, we can do it at this time, usually in approximately four hours. We also have personnel available to go with you on a short test drive and give you some basic towing instructions. Following this, we encourage you to spend a day or two at a nearby lake (weather permitting) to give all the systems a trial run.

WHAT CAMPGROUND IS NEAR NEW HORIZONS?

Milford State Lake is the largest lake in Kansas. It has several camping areas at very reasonable rates. Reservations must be made 14 days in advance, but with the exception of holiday weekends, space is usually available on short notice. The lake is located less than 10 miles from Junction City. More information can be found at www.kdwp.state.ks.us.

DOES YOUR COMPANY HAVE ANY USED NEW HORIZONS FIFTH WHEELS AVAILABLE?

Occasionally we will have used units for sale that are here on consignment or ones we have taken as trade-ins, and those will be listed on this website. Another option is to look at the website where the New Horizons Owners’ Group forum is now located—http://www.irv2.com/rvclassifieds/ since they list RVs for sale. A search of the internet may help you access other units as well.
